Just a short walk from Kamakura’s Great Buddha,

enjoy a Japanese calligraphy experience in a charming, traditional Japanese-style home with tatami, shoji screens, and warm wooden interiors.

Learn the art of calligraphy with artist Ryūhō and slow down as you create your own piece.

Ryūhō will guide you step by step as you learn to write your name in Japanese kanji. Beginners are warmly welcome, and you can create your own artwork on a shikishi board, f olding fan, or uchiwa.

After practicing, take a break and enjoy tea and sweets.

What to bring
  • Ink may stain clothing, so please wear clothes that you don't mind getting stained.
  • No special equipment or materials are required.
Good to know
  • Sessions are usually held on Mondays and Fridays. Dates and times vary depending on availability, so please check your preferred schedule in advance. Same-day participation depends on availability, so advance booking is recommended.
  • Cancellation Policy: Refunds are not available after booking confirmation. The event may be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not met. If canceled by the organizer, a full refund will be issued.
  • Children under 6 are free, and children aged 7–12 receive a 50% discount. Guests staying at DAIBUTSU BASE KAMAKURA receive a ¥2,000 discount.
  • There is no parking at the venue. Beds cannot be used during the experience.
